Samsung’s newly announced flagship tablet is the first to feature the company’s DeX technology, enabling users to have a desktop computer experience on a mobile device.
The technology giant’s tablet line-up has long been understated compared with rivals such as Microsoft and Apple, but with the Korean firm now launching a more serious attempt for market share, can it match more established devices like the iPad and the Surface?
The new tablet, which will start at £599, also comes with Samsung’s S Pen stylus and supports a new optional physical keyboard case, making it an obvious rival for Microsoft’s hybrid Surface tablet, which has some laptop functionality.
The Tab S4 has been given a larger 7600mAh battery which Samsung says can offer up to 16 hours of video playback, and Knox, the firm’s high-end security software also comes built in.
To further promote video playback and entertainment use of the device, the screen on the Tab S4 is a 10.5in Super Amoled display, which has been combined with speakers tuned by audio firm AKG and Dolby Atmos immersive sound technology.
For now, there is no confirmed release date for the new device.

“With the Galaxy Tab S4, we’re introducing a premium tablet, equipped with Samsung DeX that helps consumers perform their absolute best wherever they go.
“We look forward to providing our customers with a sense of leisure and comfort, knowing that this new addition to our ecosystem of connected devices is also packed with features to help them stay entertained.”
It is set to be a busy week for the technology giant, which is expected to announce its next Note smartphone at a live event in New York next week.
