Music streaming service Deezer has made its audio recognition tool SongCatcher available to all Android users for the first time, enabling them to identify any music playing around them.

The Shazam-like feature allows users to quickly identify songs playing within hearing range of their mobile device.

Once identified, users will then be able to add newly found tracks to their playlists and favourites, as well as play all saved SongCatcher tracks as their own list.

Alexander Holland, Deezer’s chief content and product officer, said: “We’re excited to bring music fans the ability to quickly identify and save their new favourite songs without leaving the app or interrupting their music experience.

“Today we are proud to offer people 53 million tracks on our platform, and SongCatcher makes it possible to find out if the song you are hearing is one of them.”

The music service has been rolling out several new features in recent weeks, having also launched on the two biggest smart home speaker platforms around – Amazon Echo and Google Home.
