BT has improved its BT TV app with a new option allowing users to download shows offline.

Existing customers can choose to pay an extra £5 to enjoy any of the channels they are already subscribed to, including premium channels and BT Sport.

The feature means that subscribers can finally take programmes on the move, without needing to worry about using data or relying on patchy streaming – a scenario all too familiar to any regular commuters who thought they could catch up during their train journey.

Any shows or movies you have bought or rented from the BT Store on your home set-top box can be downloaded offline on the improved BT TV App Extra.

The company has also added Chromecast support, allowing customers to cast whatever they are watching on to the big screen, as well as doubling the number of devices you can use the app on from two to four.

Offline viewing brings BT TV up to speed with its leading rivals Sky and Virgin Media, who have allowed customers to download shows on their mobile devices for some time.
