A full library of BBC podcasts has been added to Spotify, bringing thousands of new audio episodes to the streaming app.

The streaming service said BBC podcasts produced for the broadcaster’s iPlayer Radio and BBC Sounds apps would now be added to the Spotify platform.

Although some BBC podcasts are already available on the streaming platform, the range of content on offer is now set to notably expand.

“The BBC is one of the largest content creators in the UK, and have worked with the biggest and best audio talent in the world,” said James Cator, Spotify’s head of podcast partnerships for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“To have a comprehensive audio catalogue in the UK, the BBC are essential, so adding the BBC to our rapidly-expanding catalogue of podcasts was a natural partnership.”

According to the streaming service, the new library of podcasts will see additions to a wide range of genres within the app, including comedy, news and politics and business and technology.

Back in June, the BBC unveiled its new Sounds app, designed to be a new way for smartphone users to access live and on-demand BBC radio shows as well as podcasts.

At the time of launch, it was labelled as a key cog in plans to “reinvent the BBC for a new generation”, something expanding its range of programmes available on services such as Spotify will also help achieve.
