If I ever happen to drop into a conversation that I hand wrote my dissertation at university, and then watch the ensuing stunned expressions from anyone under the age of 45, I realise two things. First that I really am that old, and secondly that there have been astonishing advances made in a relatively short period within the world of technology.

Whilst Guernsey’s efforts to excel in the digital space are no secret, we spoke to a Director of Digimap, a small local specialist software development company
which is a real success story in arguably the less ‘trendy’ end of the technology arena. On page
26 find out how the company is really punching above its weight creating business systems including one that has attracted the interest of Whitehall and a data reporting system that has been successfully exported to the Pacific Rim.

Data reporting and the plethora of other regulatory standards are a permanentfixture on board agendas. We asked a local risk management company how the island has responded to some of these changes and what opportunities or challenges they might create. Read more on page 18.
