With investment at the core of everything around us, we’ve tried to explore the different ways investment impacts on our individual lives and the economy of our society in bringing together this issue  of Connect.

Be that investment in individual career aspirations, the investment of time in charities that support our community, investment in the arts, investment in health care, and investment in island infrastructure.

Where would be without investments of time, money, talent and more in the world around us? Many concerns have been raised locally about the future of investment in the Princess Elizabeth Hospital. Will the States stick by their previously agreed plans to fund the second phase of work to develop new wards and more? Dr Steve Evans hopes so. As Interim Chair of the MSG he’s heavily invested in the outcome of the States decision making processes as he warns if the development doesn’t go ahead it will impact on recruitment. With concerns also raised about the scale of the golf course development at La Grande Mare we decided to take a

different approach – and we asked Steve Lansdown why he’s so keen to spend his money here? A very rich man indeed, he’s also very grateful to the island for welcoming him, his wife, and their businesses into the community. He wants to give back and he told us why.

Nick Leale has given hours of his time repeatedly to help the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation – a charity which has helped his family immensely. His story is an example to us all of how individuals can give back to those charities which help them.

We’ve also been getting increasingly excited about the Renoir exhibition which is open now – what an accolade for the island! Thanks to all at Guernsey Museums, Art for Guernsey and everyone else who helped bring this spectacle to our doorsteps.

As we leave the summer behind us and look towards the winter, there’s plenty to remain optimistic about as we fill our diaries up with meals out over the Tennerfest, book tickets for local performances and start planning who’ll be speaking to for our next issue of Connect which will focus on entrepreneurs, like Sophie Marquis and her collection of gems.

Do get in touch if you’ve got a story you’d like to tell us, and in the meantime – enjoy Connect.
