Who or what is driving your digital IT strategy? – the next IOD debate

The title of the next Guernsey Institute of Directors’ (IOD) debate, is ‘Who or what is driving your digital strategy?’ The debate to be held on Friday April 4th, is the final in the winter seminar series sponsored by JT.

Failing to adapt to the emerging digital agenda can have a severe impact on a business. Without a fully integrated and Board level down IT strategy, a company could find itself being forced to at best react piecemeal to the developing digital landscape whilst its competitors take advantage. This seminar will look at not only why a strategy is essential, but also why it must be developed at board level so that it can be implemented throughout the business.

Rob Jones of the IOD Guernsey Branch said: “Gone are the days when the IT department was hidden away in the basement. IT is now an integral part of everything we do and that’s why the Board must involve consideration of it at the highest levels of its decision-making and strategy processes. For this final seminar in the series we have gathered an incredibly experienced and knowledgeable panel who lead IT strategy for some of the major companies in the Channel Islands and I’m looking forward to hearing their views and insights on how we should be managing our IT strategies.”

The aim of the JT sponsored Winter Seminar Series has been to provide business leaders and owners with thought provoking insight and analysis around the increasingly challenging area of optimising an appropriate digital IT strategy across the board. Over a series of months, key opinion leaders and speakers have helped lead IoD members and guests through debate around what is rapidly becoming one of the key communication challenges for businesses today.

Tamara O’Brien, Deputy Managing Director, JT (Guernsey) said: ‘We have thoroughly enjoyed sponsoring this valuable seminar series with the Guernsey IOD. As a company at the forefront of technology and digital innovation, we are only too aware of how quickly businesses can find themselves wrong footed if they don’t take charge of their own digital strategies. This seminar will be pulling together all the various strands we have discussed so far, from social media and cloud computing, to IT security and data protection. We hope IOD members have found this series interesting and beneficial. ’

The Guernsey branch of the IOD has around 750 members, representing the interests of Directors from Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm.

The Expert panel for this debate consists of: Tim Bullock, Chief Information Officer, BNP Paribas; Marc Lainé, Managing Director, C5Alliance, Guernsey; Martin Kennelly, Head of IT, JT. Moderated by: James Falla, Guernsey Press.
