Four years on from the start of the Covid crisis, with people keener than ever to take control of their own health, the Medical Specialist Group has launched a new health screening service, the only one of its kind on the island.

The consultant-led Advanced Health & Wellbeing Assessment, which includes 47 different lifestyle, medical and non-invasive tests, is being offered to individuals and to companies.

According to the latest Health and Wellbeing[i] report from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Covid caused a step change in employers’ priorities, with the percentage of senior leaders focused on health and wellbeing increasing from 61% pre-pandemic to 75% the following year.

More than two out of five (43%) organisations now offer health screening as part of their health and wellbeing programme, with 30% offering it to all employees and a further 13% offering it according to seniority.

The MSG’s Advanced Health & Wellbeing Assessment is available as either ‘Silver’, with the comprehensive range of 47 tests, a one-hour consultation with a senior MSG consultant, and a detailed personalised report, or as ‘Gold’ which adds on a personal wellbeing and lifestyle assessment with a registered Chiropractor.

The senior consultants involved are consultant gynaecologist and obstetricians Miss Lauren Green and Mr Chuks Nzewi and consultant physicians Dr Patrick Harnett and Dr Tom Saunders.

Dr Saunders says, ‘As hospital consultants, we tend to care for patients who already have a condition that needs treatment, and we have less opportunity to get involved in preventative healthcare.

‘So it’s great to be involved with a service that is helping to keep people healthy, by detecting any issues early, when they are more treatable, by reinforcing good practice, or simply by giving people peace of mind and enabling them to feel more in control of their own health.

‘For employers, there is plenty of evidence that a healthy workforce is happier and more productive which is why so many organisations are now prioritising health and wellbeing at work. We're pleased to be able to offer them a service that is on island, rather than requiring travel to the UK, and is integrated with the local healthcare system.’
