A team of 18 staff from Kleinwort Benson and SGPB Hambros joined a group of volunteers to clear up after the North Show.

After a busy two day show, which saw thousands of people visit Saumarez Park, the North Show committee have the daunting task of packing away all the tents, seating and equipment and picking up every piece of litter from within the park.

Stuart Wilson from the North Show committee said the volunteers from the business community were invaluable.

‘I can’t put it into words, we would be lost without them. We’re only a small committee and if it wasn’t for the likes of these guys then I don’t know what we’d do,’ he said.

It was the first community based project that the two companies had done in Guernsey following the sale of Kleinwort Benson to the Société Générale Group. As part of the acquisition, Kleinwort Benson is being merged with SGPB Hambros over the coming months,.

‘Kleinwort Benson has been helping the North Show committee for over six years and it’s great to have our new colleagues from SGPB Hambros joining us. Most of us do it every year and so we know what we’re doing and that helps the committee as they can let us get on with the job,’ said Glyn Carré, head of Custodian Trustee at Kleinwort Benson.

‘The North Show is an iconic Guernsey event but it needs community support to have a future. Collectively Kleinwort Benson and SGPB Hambros is one of the island’s larger employers and so we want to play our part in the local community by supporting organisations like the North Show committee who work tirelessly to make Guernsey the special place it is.’
