Sure has activated its final 4G network site at the reservoir in Guernsey following a four week roll out project across the Bailiwick.

Engineers are now in the last stage of the project, which involves optimising and testing the new mobile network to ensure it is working to its full capabilities.

Sure is the first mobile operator in Guernsey to launch and operate its 4G network which will enable customers to experience much faster data download speeds, improving access to video streaming, maps and social media.

The network upgrade represents a £10 million investment by Sure in infrastructure to improve the current 3G and 2G mobile networks as well as introduce 4G to the island.

Eddie Saints, chief executive at Sure, said: “After months of preparation work it’s very exciting to be switching on our final 4G sites in Guernsey and to have the network live across Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm.

“The optimisation and testing stage is very important to ensure the live network is working as it should and customers may see some variations in service across the islands during this final stage but this will stabilise once completed.

“The project has gone very smoothly thanks to our fantastic team of engineers and it’s great to hear that customers are enjoying the new, faster 4G network and the improvements to the existing 2G and 3G networks.”
