The States of Guernsey is now recruiting for four new full-time student social workers, who will, for the first time, be given the opportunity to train on the job.

Successful candidates will embark on an academic programme being run in partnership with the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, and coordinated by The Guernsey Institute, studying for a degree and a professional qualification in social work.

The programme is conducted online while the student also works and earns a full-time annual salary of up to £32,000. The programme will include work-related placements within a social service setting, which will be selected through discussion with university tutors and the Guernsey Institute.

There is a shortage of social workers nationally, so officers have worked with colleagues in Education to prepare this new scheme, which will allow people to gain their full qualifications while working and living in Guernsey. The qualification will lead to professional registration with Social Work England - The Social Work governing body.

When the course is completed, people in the role will be required to continue the work for a minimum of three years. As a Social Worker you will have a vital role in society providing support and protection to people who are disadvantaged and vulnerable.
