It’s almost time to get your trusty walking books on, as the Spring Walking Festival is back with a bumper schedule of guided walks.
From Saturday May 25th until Sunday May 9th you can join one of Guernsey’s fully accredited silver or gold tour guides on a variety of guided walks around Guernsey, Herm and Sark. This year’s festival includes just shy of 50 different tours, 14 of which are brand new for this year. There is something for everyone, with walks ranging from a gentle stroll to a more challenging hike , with some suitable for wheelchair users.
After what feels like a very long and wet winter, the festival offers a wonderful opportunity for people to get back out into the fresh air and experience what this beautiful island has to offer. The schedule includes walks with a wide variety of both locations and subject matter and are a fun and interesting way to get out and about and rediscover the Bailiwick.
With the 80th Anniversary of D-Day taking place this year you will find some fascinating tours covering World War Two including “The WW2 German Occupation of Sark”, “Fort George: 80 Years Since D-Day”, “My Family at War”, tours of Batterie Mirus, Fort Hommet, The Shrine of the Sacred Heart and more besides! There are tours that celebrate old traditions and folklore, local producers and artists, the stunning coastline and quiet lanes, the flora and fauna and a history that goes back to prehistoric times.
There is always something new to learn and hidden treasures to be found. The full schedule is now available on the Visit Guernsey website https://www.visitguernsey.com/experiences/events/spring-walking-festival/. You will find full details of all walks available, their difficulty level, the price, and details of how to contact the guide and to book.
