Route for Liberation Day cavalcade confirmed

The route for this year’s highly anticipated cavalcade has been confirmed, with more than 100 military vehicles, classic cars and tractors taking part.

This year’s cavalcade will begin at Torteval Church at midday, visit St Peter’s via The Imperial and L’Eree, pass through Castel along Vazon and Cobo, before travelling along the coast road towards the Vale via L’Islet and Vale Church, before joining up with more vehicles already gathered at Pembroke. 

The full cavalcade will then start the final leg of the route through the Bridge via Bordeaux and will finish by travelling along the east coast and into St Peter Port. 

The Cavalcade will end with a static display of all vehicles on the seafront in St Peter Port from 3-5pm. Islanders are encouraged to take a closer look at all the vehicles and speak to the owners. 

The detailed timings below, along with the live tracking of the procession, aim to allow as many islanders and visitors as possible to pick the best time for them to view a section of the procession. 

This year’s cavalcade is being supported by the builders CA Duquemin who in 2024 are celebrating 100 years of business. 

Jeff Vidamour, Director of the Liberation Day Cavalcade, said: 

‘We know the cavalcade is one of the most popular parts of the day’s celebrations. It is a wonderful event to be part of, and the vehicle owners enjoy it as much as the people who line the route, waving their flags and cheering us past.’ 

David Duquemin, Managing Director of CA Duquemin, said: 

‘Liberation Day is always very special to our business and my family in particular, as my parents and all four grandparents were in Guernsey for the whole of the German occupation. Also, 100 years of business is a significant milestone and we were keen to support something that would be a fitting celebration of this and give something 2 

back to the community that we have been a part of for all those years. The opportunity to sponsor the cavalcade and be involved in Guernsey’s most important day seemed an obvious choice. The event takes the celebrations out to the parishes, brings joy to the community and enables so many islanders to be part of Liberation Day.’ 

Deputy Sue Aldwell of the Committee for Education, Sport, and Culture, said: 

‘We are extremely pleased that, with the support from CA Duquemin, the around-the-island cavalcade will return this year after such support for it over the last few years. We encourage islanders to pick a spot on the route and come and wave the vehicles past.’
