Rotary Guernesiais Christmas Shoebox Appeal

MEDIA RELEASE: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and not Bailiwick Express, and the text is reproduced exactly as supplied to us

The Rotary Guernesiais 2023 Christmas Shoebox Appeal is now underway. Our annual campaign collects shoeboxes filled with gifts for disadvantaged children across Eastern Europe.

Our appeal has been running for over 20 years and each year the people of Guernsey come together to send thousands of parcels to very grateful children. In 2022, we sent 4,134 Shoeboxes from Guernsey to Montenegro, Romania, Moldova, Poland and to Ukraine. In 2023 we are specifically seeking out Ukrainian children across Europe, who will be away from their homes this Christmas.

This year, we are hoping that we might be able to collect more shoeboxes than ever before. We believe that every child deserves to have a happy Christmas and we know that your support can help make that happen.

We will be collecting Shoeboxes from Saturday 28 October until Saturday 4 November at Rotary Shoebox HQ, which this year will be at:

The former Braye Lodge Hotel, Ruette Braye,
St Peter Port

(near Jeffrey’s Garage)

If you would like a preview interview/photos, let me know. Hannah Laidlow is our Shoebox Co-Ordinator.

Here are some other diary dates of possible interest for interviews/photo opportunities :

On Thursday 2nd November our Club's Patron Louise Cripwell, with her Government House staff, will be joining us at Braye Lodge to help with the shoe box checking, packing boxes into cartons between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm.
If you are interested in sending anyone along on that morning please let me know. Or we can take and provide you with some photos.

Thanks to the Guernsey Fire Service who on the afternoon of Saturday 4th November will be helping us load the cartons on to the containers provided by Channel Seaways who are very generously shipping these free of charge from Guernsey to Poole.

Attached you will find details of what and what not to put in the boxes.
If you would like to know more, or can help us : e: shoeboxes@rotary.org.gg t: 07781 127602 (Hannah).

We do have some photos of Eastern European youngsters receiving boxes.
