A record number of local charities have applied for a portion of the Saffery Champness Rotary Walk funds.
The Walk which takes place in just under a month’s time (Saturday 7 June) hopes to raise over £50,000 which will then be distributed to approximately six worthy charity or community projects.
Applications for funding closed on 30 April and the committee will be meeting to discuss each one at the end of next week (8 May). Soon after this a representative will be in touch to let them know whether or not they have been successful.
David Mortimer, chairman of the organising committee said: “We have been overwhelmed by the number of amazing projects that are appealing for funds. It is going to be very difficult to decide which ones are more worthy than others.
“Last year we raised a record amount of money and hope to top it again this time around. Historically islanders have been extremely generous which has been fantastic. With their help, we have managed to make a huge difference to a host of very worthy causes.”
