The 2022 RBC Walk of Hope has raised in excess of over £11,500 for local charity Guernsey Mind with an additional £11,000 donated by sponsor Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and its employees. With this being only the second year the walk has taken place the charity were once again delighted that they received over 600 registrations, with well over 500 walkers on the day in Guernsey and over 50 walkers in Alderney.

Guernsey, 3rd July

Maddy Diligent of Guernsey Mind said

‘We were once again amazed by how many people took part in the walk and the money it has raised. Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) not only sponsored the walk but also have chosen Guernsey Mind as their charity this year and their help has been integral to the success of this year’s walk. Many of the employees got involved and supported all aspects of the preparation and on the day itself.

The walk was created to support our ongoing community initiative around suicide awareness and prevention. The funds raised will not only be used for our ongoing therapy service but also to enable us to continue to deliver the SFA (suicide first aid) certificate.

The success of the walk shows that suicide continues to have a huge impact in our community. The significance of walking from the darkness into the light of the rising sun with a group of supportive people around you is a path Guernsey Mind continue to emulate in their community, work place and 1:1 work.’

Not only has the event raised over £11,500 but RBC employees have already raised an additional £11,000 for the charity. RBC will continue to raise funds for the rest of 2022 with total money raised being announced later in the year. We are grateful for their continued support.’

Lisa Barnett Managing Director of RBC in Guernsey added:

“RBC is incredibly proud to have supported this year’s Walk of Hope for Guernsey Mind and the charity’s ongoing work to raise awareness of wellbeing, mental health and suicide prevention at such an important time.

RBC is committed to supporting programs that help young people and families in particular access the right care at the right time, so I was delighted to hear many positive and hopeful conversations on the walk and know that this will go a long way towards breaking down the stigma of these topics which are often difficult to discuss.

Well done to the Mind Guernsey team for hosting this brilliant event, and to my RBC colleagues, their friends and families, and our clients and business partners for really getting behind the event, joining the walk, and raising vital funds for this cause.”
