Global offshore law firm Carey Olsen has promoted Laila Arstall, Patricia Montgomery and Victoria Connolly to counsel within its trusts and private wealth group.

Mrs Arstall has extensive experience in the formation and administration of trusts, companies and partnerships and with dealing with data protection and confidentiality issues.  She also has considerable expertise in relation to Guernsey tax and, as well as advising clients and writing on the subject for leading publications, she is a member of a number of working parties established by industry and the States of Guernsey's Income Tax Office, including in relation to FATCA, the Common Reporting Standard and the EU Savings Directive.

Mrs Arstall's experience includes dealing with Tax Information Exchange Agreement requests for information and advising private client and industry bodies on the 2012 changes to Guernsey's tax law and practice in response to the UK's treatment of Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme (QROPs).

Mrs Montgomery, also based in Guernsey, has been with the firm since 2001 and advises private clients and fiduciaries on all aspects of fiduciary law with particular expertise in the creation and administration of offshore trusts, foundations and corporate structures.

Mrs Montgomery’s advice is sought by fiduciaries in relation to their regulatory obligations, terms of business and take-on documentation and she also advises individuals, global institutions and law firms regarding Guernsey's inheritance laws, the creation of wills and the administration of estates. She is also a Notary Public.

Ms Connolly, based in Jersey, has a broad semi-contentious and non-contentious trust practice advising institutional trustees, high net worth private clients and family offices.  She frequently writes for trust industry journals and other publications and speaks at conferences and seminars on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious trust law and private client matters.

Ms Connolly has been involved in ground-breaking and high profile cases before the Royal Court, and in addition advises on all aspects of non-contentious trust and private wealth work, including the establishment and administration of complex trust structures.

Corporate lawyer Tristan Maultby has also been promoted to senior associate. Mr Maultby acts on a range of corporate, real estate and corporate finance matters and advises on all aspects of Jersey corporate and finance law with considerable experience in complex, high-value transactions both in Jersey and the City of London.

Carey Olsen chairman, John Kelleher, said: “Laila, Patricia, Victoria and Tristan’s promotions reflect their high levels of expertise as well as their dedication to the firm and our clients.

"We are committed to developing our practice teams across the group both through internal promotion as well as recruitment and I congratulate them as they move on to the next level in their careers."
