The biennial OAK MUG Bike Ride is back on Sunday 9th October, raising vital funds for male cancer support on Guernsey.
MUG is asking islanders to get involved and ‘ride for a life’ in this unique 12-mile, two-hour ride where 95% of the route takes place off-road and includes trails not usually accessible to the public.
Starting at Saumarez Park, the route heads to the coast at Grandes Rocques via the La Mare Nature Trail, around the coastline to Bordeaux and finishes at Vale Castle with an after-party.
This year riders will have the option of taking the new Mountain Bike Trail around the rim of Les Vardes Quarry. A short technical route around obstacles at Beaucette Marina will also be available to test riders' skills.
The event is suitable for those aged 7 and up, of all abilities, and costs £10 for a single rider or £25 for a family group to enter. All proceeds will be donated directly to MUG to support local male cancer projects.
The charity is also encouraging riders to get sponsored and dedicate the ride to a loved one whose life has been affected by cancer. Participants will have the option to write personal messages on their number plates to celebrate if they wish.
Ian Brown, MUG Committee Member and organiser of the event with Mark Smith, says: “The Bi Annual OAK MUG Coastal Ride is great opportunity for families and individual riders to ride along and enjoy our coastal paths while raising funds for a great cause”
Riders can begin their 12-mile trail any time between 10am and 11am on Sunday 9th October. The after-party at Vale Castle will include music, entertainment and refreshments on sale.
