A New Zealander who has lived in Guernsey for 17 years has gone back to one of his first employers in the island as finance director.
Paul Wright moved to Guernsey from New Zealand in 1997 and spent two years with IEG as a management accountant before moving to roles in the finance industry and subsequently the Blue Diamond Group, where he spent 10 years as finance director.
In his new role, he will be responsible for the finances of Guernsey Gas, Jersey Gas and Manx Gas and will be involved in the continuing integration of the three entities.
‘When I last worked with IEG, the three islands were separate and we are now operating under one company umbrella. A huge investment has been made ensuring that integration has gone as smoothly as possible and we now have three companies working as one. We are continually evaluating our company structure and the way in which we operate in order to deliver the best possible service for all our customers’, said Mr Wright.
Mr Wright said finance director posts outside of the finance sector rarely came up and was delighted to be back with the company.
‘It’s a really exciting time to be joining and a challenge to manage the finances of such a diverse organisation. From supplying natural gas, butane and propane, cylinders for BBQs, servicing and installation, to the sale of electrical goods, it provides something different every day which you wouldn’t necessarily get from the finance industry’, he said.
Outside of work, Mr Wright, who is a Bachelor of Commerce and a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, enjoys family time, playing golf, cycling and kayaking.
