The Town Centre Partnership is looking to find Guernsey’s undiscovered musical talent. The organisation, which hosts a series of musical events throughout the summer months in St Peter Port, is looking for local performers to apply to take part in a new competition called ‘Guernsey’s Got Talent’ which aims to provide islanders of any age an opportunity to showcase their talent.
Held on the 17 April at 7pm in the Inner Street of the Market Building, the event will be judged by four local personalities including BBC Guernsey host John Randall.
Prizes of £100 and £50 will be awarded to the winner and runners up respectively across two age groups - under and over eighteen. There will also be a prize for best vocalist, best instrumentalist and best group.
The winners will be invited to participate in the Town Carnival which this year will be taking place from 18 July - 1 August. Thanks to the Guernsey Arts Commission, the Town Carnival will see performances and entertainment taking place across two weeks rather than just one, in order to give local performers an opportunity to play throughout the town.
Jack Honeybill, executive officer of the Town Centre Partnership, said: “This event is a great opportunity to find new or less well known musicians and give these local acts the chance to share their talent with the rest of the island during the Town Carnival.
“Carnival Week is our flagship event, livening up the streets of St Peter Port. We are very grateful to be given the opportunity to extend this, continuing to brighten up our already beautiful town with a wide variety of music and entertainment.”
Entries can be made from 8th to 18th March 2015 by e-mailing Jack Honeybill on: jackhoneybill@hotmail.com after which a draw will be made for performance slots.
Tickets for the event can be purchased from Jack, ordering on line costing £12.50.
Under eighteens who wish to participate in the contest will need written parental consent to perform during the evening.
