La Mare de Carteret Primary School has a new Headteacher.

Alison Elliott, who has been the school’s Deputy Headteacher for the last seven years, has been appointed the role after a competitive recruitment process. Mrs Elliott replaces Kim Hutchinson, who was recently promoted to the role of Head of Primary Leadership and Development within the education senior leadership team.

The process for recruiting a new permanent Deputy Headteacher for the school is now underway.

Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen, President of the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture, said:

‘Headteachers play such crucial roles as leaders of school communities and the Committee was delighted that Alison, who has played a key role a La Mare de Carteret Primary School for the last seven years, was successful in her application to now lead the school. Alison is yet another example of the high quality of staff we have on-island. Our planned efforts to ensure local succession and to develop leaders is a key part of our Education Strategy, to invest in leadership and development.’

Mrs Elliott said:

‘I feel so passionately about La Mare de Carteret Primary School and it is an honour to be in a position to lead this fantastic group of staff and of course our wonderful children. The last seven years as Deputy Headteacher have been the perfect preparation to step up to the role of Headteacher and I’m grateful to everyone who has helped me along the way. I look forward to supporting colleagues, children and parents and carers as we continue striving for this school to be the very best it can be.’
