Guernsey businesses will once again take to the streets of St Peter Port for this year’s Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Inter-Firm Town Relay on 29 July.

Now a firm fixture in Guernsey’s athletics calendar, the annual race through the centre of town sees each runner complete a one mile lap starting and ending at the top of Smith Street.

The course takes runners down the Truchot, along the Pollet, down the High Street, along the sea front, back along the Pollet and finally up Smith Street to finish.

Teams are made up of four runners and can be either all men, women or mixed. Entrants must be over 16 and each team must not have more than one Guernsey Island Amateur Athletic Club (GIAAC) member.

The Butterfield Bolts won the men’s competition for the third year in a row in 2014, completing the race in a time of 19 minutes and 47 seconds.  The women’s competition was won by Fast and Fabuloius of OI, who crossed the finish line with a time of 26 minutes and 36 seconds, while a team from KPMG took the prize for the first mixed team with a time of 22 minutes and 16 seconds.

The money raised from the event will support the Guernsey athletics team in the 2015 Island Games in Jersey.

Andy Finch, head of wealth management at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management in Guernsey, said: “This will be our 12th year sponsoring the Inter-Firm Relay. It has become an established event in the calendars of local businesses and has a fantastic atmosphere and competitive spirit.

“Last year over 130 runners took part and we saw some impressive performances, with many completing the course in less than six minutes. It’s always a close race and it will be interesting to see if Butterfield Bolts can hold on to the prize for a fourth year or if a new team will steal the title."

Registration is at 6pm and the race starts at 6.30pm at the top of Smith Street. Entry costs £15 and entry forms are available from the GIAAC office and website or the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management office on The Grange. Postal entries must be received by Friday 24th July. Late entries can be submitted on the day and will cost £18.
