MEDIA RELEASE: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and not Bailiwick Express, and the text is reproduced exactly as supplied to us

The Health and Social Service Department are inviting applications from people interested in joining the HSSD Board as a Non-States Member.

Deputy Mark Dorey, HSSD minister said:

'We hope that the right person who has a wealth of knowledge and experience that could be of benefit to the HSSD Board would be interested. We have an open mind on what particular background, experience and skills people might be able to offer the Board. Their background might be in health or social services in Guernsey or elsewhere. But it might just as easily be in other areas, such as business or the third sector.'

The Department's proposed candidate for a Non-States Member seat will need to be put before a meeting of the States for approval.

The role will involve attending at least two half day meetings per month, reading the board papers and any additional meetings or visits as may be required.

Non-States Members receive an attendance payment of £65 per half day for the meetings they attend, but no other payments.

The Health and Social Services Department's current membership is:

  • Deputy Mark Dorey - Minister
  • Deputy Martin Storey - Deputy Minister
  • Deputy Barry Brehaut
  • Deputy Elis Bebb
  • Deputy Al Brouard

Information about the Department, including its mandate and responsibilities can be found here http://www.gov.gg/HSSD

Anyone interested in becoming a non-States member on the HSSD Board is asked in the first instance to contact the Acting Chief Officer, Malcolm Nutley on 707489 or by e-mail mnutley@hssd.gov.gg. The closing date for applications is 31 May 2014.
