The key factors behind what makes a successful finance company will be debated by a panel of UK and Guernsey experts at a thought leadership event on Tuesday 30 June. The event, titled ‘Staying competitive in the 21st century’, will offer a strategic insight into key issues of finance sector innovation and look to identify where skills gaps exist in Guernsey to help ensure the right learning and development opportunities are available.
Chris Brindley, Managing Director of Regional Banking at Metro Bank, is the keynote speaker and will talk about how Metro Bank does business, where ideas come from and how they are implemented. He is a leading advocate of community banking with more than 25 years’ experience in the retail banking industry and has led teams to top awards in sales, customer service and employee engagement.
Mr Brindley said: “My presentation is appropriate for any executive who wishes to improve how they deal with customers or seeks greater engagement through their colleagues. From an audience perspective I want them to understand the importance of surprising and delighting customers and that delivering an amazing culture is crucial for sustainable growth.”
Mr Brindley will then join a panel discussion on financial services opportunities and their delivery. The other panellists are Nick England, CEO at VFX PLC; Geoff Miller, CEO at GLI Finance Ltd; Gillian Browning, Director of Fiduciary Supervision for the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC); Mike Loginov, CEO of Ascot Barclay Cyber Security Group; and Eric Martineau-Fortin, Managing Partner at White Star Capital. The debate will be moderated by Tim Loveridge, Chief Transformation Officer at the GFSC.
Mr Loveridge said: “The event promises to provide a fascinating insight into what financial services businesses need to be doing to stay at the top of their field. By the end of the event, we hope to have examined in detail how Guernsey can engage with and take advantage of current opportunities in the marketplace, while also bringing into focus the need for innovation and what role technology will play as we progress through the 21st century.”
Hosted by the GTA University Centre, in conjunction with Guernsey Finance, the event takes place at St Pierre Park Hotel from 4pm, starting with registration and concluding with a networking drinks reception at 6pm. EY is sponsoring the keynote speech of Mr Brindley, while C5 Alliance is sponsoring the drinks reception.
