The Old Government House Hotel and Spa has been granted VisitGuernsey’s Gold Award and had its five-star rating and Breakfast Award renewed for a further 12 months.

The Gold Award recognises excellence in the experience that guests receive, from the moment they make a reservation, their arrival at the hotel and through to their departure. Quality is assessed against the standards of excellence established by VisitEngland and the awards were made following a recent visit and overnight stay at the hotel by one its assessors.

Andrew Chantrell, General Manager of The OGH, said that the renewal of the five-star rating and the new Gold Award was a sign of the continued investment in staff training and the hotel’s infrastructure. ‘We are delighted that our owner, Red Carnation Hotels, continues to invest in the hotel and in Guernsey’s tourism industry,’ said Mr Chantrell. ‘In the report the assessor remarked that congratulations are due to the entire team for their continued efforts in ensuring that service and hospitality exceed the expectations of the ever-demanding customer and I would echo those comments.’

Other highlights of the assessment were that the hotel ‘exudes decadence’, the staff hospitality and service and the cleanliness throughout the hotel. The quality of the food in the hotel’s Brasserie restaurant and Curry Room were also picked out for praise. The report noted that the hotel uses local or home-made ingredients and that the dining experience was a highlight of their stay.

Director of Marketing and Tourism at Commerce & Employment, Mike Hopkins said: ‘This is the highest accolade that can be awarded to a hotel on the island and Andrew and his team at the OGH should be congratulated for their hard work and dedication; their commitment to delivering an exceptional experience to their guests is an example to all. The award also reflects the continued investment by the Red Carnation group in their Guernsey hotels and shows their real commitment to, and confidence in, our tourism industry.’

Located in the heart of St Peter Port, The Old Government House Hotel & Spa, is one of the best known and loved hotels on the Island.
