Bryan Lean, chair of Cancer Research UK, Guernsey branch, has praised organisers and entrants to this year’s ‘Our Race for Life’ which has raised a staggering £30,000.

‘Dani and her team have again done a fantastic job organising Guernsey’s “Our Race for Life” event on behalf of Cancer Research. We are so very grateful to them, to the fun-loving participants and all of you generous soles who helped raise £30,000 on the day. This achievement guarantees the advancement of essential research in Southampton to help change the course of cancer for many patients in the future. Together we will beat cancer.’

More than 750 people headed to the KGV for the event in May that took them on a 3km or 5km run or walk around Saumarez Park. Shortly after the event, the total stood at £22,000 but it rose steadily as more and more people donated to the cause.

Head organiser Dani Barnett, herself a BRCA gene carrier, is immensely proud of all those involved in making this event such a success.

‘Never in my wildest dreams did I think we could raise this amount of money for Cancer Research – Guernsey Branch. In two years, we’ve raised close to £40,000 that will go towards fighting back against cancer. It really has made all the hours spent organising this event and all the efforts of our participants, sponsors and supports so very worthwhile. We cannot thank you enough.’

Dani and the team are now preparing for next year’s event with hopes of a similar success.
