Guernsey Museum at Candie is thrilled to have reopened on Friday 28th January.
The venue has been shut for its annual closure since 1 January and the team have been prepared two new exhibitions, two new displays and a new Timewarp role play area.
Taking centre stage is the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition from the Natural History Museum. This popular exhibition returns to the Museum for the 27th time to treat visitors to breath taking images of the natural world. This year there are over 100 images, with the two winning images shown in spectacular lightbox displays. The winners were selected by a panel of judges from more than 50,000 photographs that were submitted from 95 countries. The public are invited to vote online for the winner of the People’s Choice Award: www.nhm.ac.uk/wpy/peoples-choice Voting closes at 2pm on Tues 2 February.
Alongside this worldwide exhibition, Guernsey Arts is excited to showcase a collection of images from closer to home. The Bailiwick Wildlife Photography Open exhibition features photographs taken by people in Guernsey and this will be on display in the greenhouse gallery. In the foyer area, there is a cabinet display of objects, photographs and documents to mark 40 years of BBC Guernsey.
The Discovery Room features a new Timewarp called The Wonder Room. The space is a based on a room in a house belonging to the Lukis family in the 1860s. Also in the Discovery Room, the previous sculpture display has been replaced with a Cabinet of Curiosities featuring some quirky objects from the main collection store. Objects on display include an alligator, a giant egg from an extinct bird, a beer strainer and a lock of Victor Hugo’s hair.
Guernsey Museum at Candie is open 7 days a week 10.00-16.00. Normal admission applies, so Discovery Pass holders and their children go free.
