Waste Awareness Week is here to highlight the three R’s: reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Public Services’ recycling experts are hosting a series of drop-in sessions in Market Square and at local supermarkets to answer all your questions as well as passing on some handy waste and money saving tips. Islanders can also have a bit of fun by having a go at the Department’s ‘Kerbside Challenge’.

Public Services has placed a selection of intriguing installations around town to get islanders thinking about the waste they produce from a fresh perspective.

The week will also focus on the Love Food Hate Waste campaign which aims to reduce food waste in Guernsey. It is estimated that on average households in

Guernsey could save as much as £600 a year simply by cutting down on the amount of food they throw away.

To show how much difference this could make Public Services is running the ‘Treat yourself’ competition with Island FM. Every day listeners will be in with a chance of winning a prize worth £50, which is the amount people could save per month on their grocery bills by shopping and cooking smartly.
Islanders can find the recycling team at:
• 15 July, 12-2pm: Market Terrace and Waitrose Rohais
• 16 July, 12-2pm: Co-op St Sampson’s and Co-op St Martins
• 17 July, 12-2pm: Market Terrace and M&S St Martins
• 18 July, 12-2pm: Market Square
• 19 July, 10-12pm: Waitrose Admiral Park

Recycling officer, Tina Norman-Ross, said: Waste Awareness Week was a great success last year and we would like to build on this by encouraging islanders to think about the amount of waste they create and how they can, even by making small changes, reduce this and save themselves money in the process.”
