Local directors will be teaming up on 14th April at the Mallard Cinema to showcase their latest short films together at a community event in support of the new 'Filmmakers of Guernsey' Facebook Group.

The screenings came out of a conversation struck up over Facebook with Brighton based Joshua Fletcher and local filmmaker Alex Bates, director of Occupied, who started the Filmmakers of Guernsey group on the social media site. "I was invited to the group and immediately thought it would be a great opportunity to screen my film on the island alongside some local talent who I had been hearing good things about from afar," said Fletcher. "Alex got back to me immediately showing an interest in my film and the idea to screen some local films together. We're very excited to all meet in person, see our films on the big screen and share our ideas for new projects."

Joshua Fletcher, known locally for his music videos and visual work for 'Of Empires', returns to Guernsey with his first narrative short film 'Plant Life', made with just two friends and zero budget. What started out as a personal challenge to make a film at home with only the resources to hand suddenly turned into a lockdown project that took 2 years to complete. Filming began in February 2020 and picked up again in August 2020 once the first wave of restrictions had been lifted and post production took a year to complete in between Fletcher's freelance directing projects. He will be on the island to attend the screenings and location scout for his next project with his cinematographer.

The films on show at the event will be 'OCCUPIED' by Alex Bates, 'PLANT LIFE' by Joshua G. R. Fletcher, 'LORELEI' by Lars Janssen and Charlotte Dawn Potter, 'STIRLING’S WAR' by Gaz Papworth and 'A SILENT IMPRISONMENT' by Cameron Ashplant and Jason Hancock.

If successful the event will be the beginning of many 'Filmmakers of Guernsey' group meet ups and screenings in future. The event starts at 6.30pm and tickets are on sale now on the Mallard Cinema website.
