LouvreFund has committed to a three-year sponsorship deal to support the Guernsey FA’s Development Academy for the island’s under-12 to under-16 year-old footballers.

The High Performance Player Pathway scheme develops Guernsey's promising players aged between 7 and 21 and the programme for 11–16 year-olds will be known as the Louvre Development Academy.

The Louvre Development Academy aims to give the island’s young footballers the opportunity to be challenged at an appropriate level of competition in the under-12 to under-16 age groups. The coaching programme provides these youngsters with first-class training and competitive matches to allow them to maximise their all-round development as players and to generally improve themselves as individuals.

The pathway also teaches the players what it means to represent Guernsey and to take pride in the history and achievements of Guernsey football. They are also encouraged to adhere to the laws of the game and set a positive example of fair play both on and off the pitch. As well as improving their football skills, the GFA coaches create an environment of self-improvement and willingness to work hard. The young players are also taught the importance of a healthy diet and nutrition.

In the summer, Louvre sponsored the under-15’s trip to Sweden for the Gothia Cup. Additionally Louvre sponsors the young mountain bike rider, Hannah English, as part of a sports grant, which also gives her the option of paid work experience. Louvre has woven sport into its corporate culture and employs a number of Guernsey’s top sportsmen including two Guernsey FC players who are all offered flexible hours to enable them to train and compete.

Kevin Gilligan, LouvreFund’s Managing Director, who is no stranger to high performance football, says: "As a business we strongly believe that the attributes you develop on the pitch as a player are also those that will help you to succeed in business. The Louvre Development Academy is here to support and develop young footballing talent but the emphasis on how you behave off the pitch is also to be applauded."

Gary Roberts, Chief Executive of the Guernsey FA commented that: "We are delighted with this new partnership and the opportunity to work alongside a progressive company such as LouvreFund. As we continue to use the High Performance Player Pathway to develop these young people both as players and individuals, the support of LouvreFund and their recognition of the positive attributes acquired through sport will be invaluable in providing appropriate opportunities for the Louvre Development Academy age groups."

The sponsorship provides the five year groups with kit and also contributes to travel to enable the teams to travel for fixtures outside the island.
