The organisers of the 2018 Guernsey Dairy Milk Run are eagerly anticipating another great turnout of both runners and spectators on Sunday 17th June 2018. The race, also known as the Father’s Day Half Marathon, is coordinated by Guernsey Athletics and sponsored by the Guernsey Dairy. It attracted in excess of 600 runners last year.
“The Dairy is looking to build on the success of last year and are pleased to offer its support by being the main corporate sponsor for such a prestigious occasion in the local sporting calendar. Working closely with Guernsey Athletics, we are looking forward to organising another great day for the whole family. Whether competing as a serious or fun runner, participating in one of the junior races, or supporting a friend or family member it should be a fantastic day out,” says Andrew Tabel, general manager of the Guernsey Dairy.
“Whilst the run has a competitive edge, for the majority of participants it’s about being part of a memorable occasion, for some it will be achieving an impossible goal. Whatever the motivation for running, the atmosphere generated is extraordinary. This is a ‘highlight’ local event. We’d like to think that Guernsey’s dairy industry is seen similarly, an integral and treasured part of island life. As a business, the Dairy prospers by putting something back into the community. What better way to contribute than to be involved in one of the Island’s leading mass participation events?”
Guernsey milk is well known for being particularly high in protein. It contains a wide range of vitamins and minerals and is a natural sports recovery drink for anyone who is serious about their health and general well-being. So it’s no surprise that competitors will be given a free half-litre of low-fat Guernsey milk when they cross the finishing line, as well as a medal and a souvenir technical running vest or t-shirt.
This year's event will start at 0900 at L'Eree and will finish outside the Information Centre on the St Peter Port seafront.
Paul Ingrouille of Guernsey Athletics says: “Planning and preparations are well underway and because of the recent growth in the number of runners and spectators it’s been ‘all hands on deck’ to make sure we build on this. We’re determined to take last years feel-good factor into the 2018 Milk Run. The shorter Junior races will once again take place on the seafront… it’s a real family day.
‘The sponsorship from the Dairy is a great match for us - a natural local product and an active local sporting event both firmly embedded in the heart of the community. We’re looking forward to working together again.”
"We are also delighted that Island FM have pledged their continued support again for this year and will be broadcasting live throughout the event.
