The Guernsey Community Foundation wants to find out what it’s really like to live in Guernsey.

It is asking Islanders to take part in a community survey – the first of its kind – which has been designed in conjunction with Island Global Research.

This survey, which launches today, asks respondents a range of questions which include how satisfied they are with Guernsey life, how connected they feel to the rest of society, whether they are experiencing stress, and what they would change to make living here better.

“The Foundation was set up specifically to improve the quality of life in Guernsey, especially for those most in need,” said Foundation Chief Executive Jim Roberts.

“But until now, we’ve never asked people to tell us about their quality of life, and what could be done to improve it. We want to know what it’s like to live here, the extent to which Islanders think their needs are met, and what would make their lives better. And we want to hear from as many people as possible.”

Anyone aged 16 and over and living in Guernsey is welcome to complete the survey, which has been funded by the States of Guernsey, the Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands, and the Social Investment Fund.

Lindsay Jefferies, Managing Director of Island Global Research, said: “We really appreciate the time people spend completing our surveys, and hope many people will be willing to spend a few minutes on this one. The survey asks about different aspects of island life, and we look forward to learning about your experience.”

She added: “The survey is available online via our website, but please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like to receive a paper copy of the questionnaire or complete the survey over the phone.” Earlier this year the Foundation launched At Home In Guernsey, the Island’s first dedicated homelessness charity for adults. The launch was the culmination of a multi-year social policy project looking at local homelessness. The Foundation will use the results of the community survey to help it decide where to focus its attention next. The survey results will also help the Foundation prioritise its grant-giving.
