Guernsey Airport is looking to recruit Firefighters to join its Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (RFFS), with a drop-in this weekend for anyone interested in finding out more.

RFFS firefighters are an important part of the airport’s emergency response, providing fire cover, rescue services and first aid.

RFFS has organised a drop-in session between 9:30am and 2pm on Saturday 9 September, at the Airport Fire Station.

This will enable people to meet the team and gain an insight into the work they do, ahead of the closing date for applications, which is Friday 15 September.

Airports fire manager Peter Bretel explained: “Our airport firefighters are an integral part of emergency response and safety activities at Guernsey Airport.

“It is a rewarding career providing an important service to the community. We would welcome anyone interested to meet the team at the weekend and ask any questions they have.”

Applicants must hold a category B driving licence and be able to gain a Category C driving licence. Candidates must also have good eyesight, a high level of fitness and a good standard of education in order to complete the rigorous and physically demanding selection process, which includes written, practical, and physical fitness assessments.

The closing date for applications is Friday 15 September. Theoretical assessments will take place between 6pm and 8pm on Monday 25 September and practical assessments are scheduled for Saturday 14 October.
