The GTA University Centre has appointed a consultant dedicated to encouraging local businesses to achieve Investors in People accreditation.

Janine Lane, who has worked in learning and development for 15 years, has taken on the role ahead of the introduction of the sixth generation of Investors in People in the island early next year.

"Investors in People has been highly successful as companies have recognised that great people make great businesses, and that putting people at the heart of any future vision will help achieve it," said Miss Lane.

"The new sixth generation IIP framework no longer focuses on processes, policies or paperwork but simply looks for the ingredients that organisations need to succeed and consistently outperform their peers."

The sixth generation framework has been developed in partnership with accredited organisations, academics and market leaders. It contains nine indicators that put management excellence at the heart of any organisation including leading and inspiring people, managing performance, building capability and creating sustainable success.

"Investors in People used to be a big commitment and while those who had been through it recognised the benefits it had delivered, the workload was often a factor in putting small and medium-sized businesses off," said Miss Lane.

"The sixth generation is forward thinking and recognises the importance of High Performance working. We are confident that when Guernsey businesses hear more about it and understand the impact it will have on their team’s performance and on success they will be keen to get involved."

Miss Lane developed her career in learning and development with Thomas Cook where she headed up the learning and development team, achieving a National Training award and being named runner up in Europe for Call Centre training. Her specialism is in change management and during her time with Thomas Cook she gained experience of both mergers and demergers. Since returning to the island she has worked for both Guernsey Post and NP Group and actively supports CIPD locally.

"Janine is a keen advocate for continued learning and working with best practice and has led a number of businesses to achieve Investors in People at the various levels including gold and silver awards. In her new role, she will be able to focus on sharing that experience for the benefit of those undertaking Investors in People accreditation."

GTA University Centre chief executive Simon Le Tocq said that Investors in People had been setting the standard for better people management for over 25 years.

"All organisations benefit from good leadership and well-motivated employees, and Investors in People provides a great performance model for continuous improvement,’ he said.

"Having companies which put their people at the heart of what they do will be critical to the continued success of Guernsey. By committing to Investors in People, businesses will be able to identify strengths and development areas in a structured way to enable continued growth."
