Georgian Culture Week proposes to introduce a local audience to various aspects of Georgian artistic culture.
Georgian Culture Week proposes to introduce a local audience to various aspects of Georgian artistic culture.
This paper explains the events that will take place, how much the event will cost to put on, and how it will be funded. It also deals with several matters related to holding an event of this nature.
Background on Georgia
Georgia is an independent republic of 3.7 million people bounded by the Black Sea, Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia. Geopolitically it is a democracy, part of Europe but not within the EU, and pursues a pro-western foreign policy.
Georgia has a rich history in the arts, music, cuisine and wine. Georgia Culture Week proposes to showcase these talents to a local audience.
Guernsey has a small number of resident Georgian nationals working in many different sectors of our economy.

Governance, and how the costs will be met and managed
It is proposed that Guernsey Revival, a registered Guernsey charity (CH616) will supervise and oversee governance generally and take control of the financial elements of Georgia Culture Week.
Guernsey Revival is a charity that organises public entertainment events which raise funds for local charities, most recently “Guernsey You Can Dance 2023”, held at the St Pierre Park Hotel in July which raised £10,000 for 16 local charities. Since inception in 2019 Guernsey Revival has raised just under £50,000 for local charities, and in 2023 it assumed responsibility for the governance and finances of Guernsey Wheelchairography.
The Guernsey Revival committee has yet to formally approve this overall proposal, such approval is dependent on achieving sponsorship and in-principle grant funding, and achieving a surplus from the Day 3 event to enable a substantial (£2,000 budgeted) donation for local charities.
The costs of getting the artists and support people, artistic materials and Georgian wine to Guernsey (of £11,000) and back will be paid by [HOW]. This leaves £11,000 to be funded locally.
We hope to raise £9,000 from corporate sponsorship and get a match-funded grant of £2,000 from the Guernsey Arts Commission.
Marketing and publicity
We will use various marketing strategies and tools to promote the events, including social media, media releases, and word of mouth.
Corporate sponsors will be encouraged to support the events through their staff and clients.
The participants
The main participants are Georgian nationals who will visit Guernsey to showcase their artistic talents. There will be 9 artists and 3 support participants.
Locally we expect to receive support from up to 10 volunteers.
9 artists*150, support participants, or volunteers will be paid.
The benefits to the wider Island community and visitor economy
The event will introduce Georgian culture locally to an audience unlikely to have had any previous experience of this.
The event will also be covered in Georgia, both on the radio and in the media, and will likely result in increased visitor interest from an area not currently touched by any direct marketing by Visit Guernsey.
Various policies
Health and Safety Policy attached. The main risks associated with the H&S policy are considered in the attached Risk Assessment [TO COME]
Safeguarding Policy attached. It is not anticipated that any of the participants or volunteers will be vulnerable people (as defined) although we will not know whether any of the guests will be vulnerable until the event itself. Participants and volunteers will be suitably briefed.
