The GCOS Christmas 2022 concert features Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Chilcott’s On Christmas Night alongside other seasonal music. Guernsey Music Centre children’s choir will also perform under their director Rachel Wright. We welcome guest soloists Andrew Woodmansey (Tenor), Lawrence Gillians (Bass) and Toluwani Idowu (Alto).
Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is an established favourite amongst the classical Christmas repertoire. Part 1 tells the familiar story of the Nativity and was first performed on Christmas Day, 1734. The concert will feature all of Part 1 with selected items from Part 2.
Bob Chilcott’s “On Christmas Night” is written for 4 part choir with additional upper voices. The GCOS will peform this work alongside the choir from the Guernsey Music Centre. The piece tells the story through 8 original Christmas carols in a variety of musical styles including elements of swing and folk music. Familiar traditional carol melodies weave alongside these arrangements to form an enchanting modern celebration of the Christmas Story.
