Last Sunday, around 340 runners took part in the annual Investec Guernsey Mind 10km Fun Run, raising £5,000 for the charity.
Entrants of all abilities, aged 16-years-old and over, took part in one of Guernsey’s most popular and inclusive running events. The event raises awareness of the positive links between physical and mental health as well as raising funds for Guernsey Mind.
Starting at the KGV Playing Fields, the route took runners along a northbound, inland course up to Rue Sauvage, down through the lanes to the coast road at Rousse, back along the coast road down to Cobo, before turning inland once more to return to the KGV playing fields.
James de Garis, a well-known face on the local running scene, was first over the line in a time of 36:07. First lady to finish was Sebrina Amy, another familiar face, with a time of 43:56.
Laurel Le Tocq of Guernsey Mind said, “Although the fastest runners are seasoned athletes posting impressive times, the emphasis of our Fun Run is very much on inclusion and fun for all abilities. The run raises awareness of our Team Talk campaign – promoting positive mental health in sport – and perfectly highlights the links between positive physical and mental health. The money raised will be used to further progress our Team Talk campaign, as well as supporting the other projects we run. We thank everyone who took part in the event, and especially all of the volunteers and helpers who made it possible.”
Nick Leale of Investec said, “It has been fantastic to help Guernsey Mind with this event. The Fun Run sees the Guernsey’s running community come together and encourage new runners and we have loved being a part of that inclusive and supportive atmosphere. Investec believes in creating a work environment that supports the wellbeing of our people. We think the best might still be yet to come and we are gearing up for the next two years of sponsorship.”
