The popular Fete d’Etai medieval day returns to Castle Cornet on Sunday 20 August and features a packed timetable of things to see and do.

A special guest for this year is Richard York, musician and storyteller, who is returning for the first time since 2019. Richard has an encyclopaedic memory for stories and tells them by heart, which captivates children and adults alike. Richard is also an accomplished musician and uses the harp, bagpipes & other instruments to enhance his tales.

The live action role play group Tol Galen will once again be providing entertainment in the form of sword fights and displays of weapons and armour. This will be accompanied by the gentler activity of art & crafts. Visitors can learn different weaving techniques and make something to take home. People can also see and try the ancient skill of willow weaving with artist Rae Bearder.

Medieval reenactors from Jersey, The Duke’s Leopards, will be setting up a medieval kitchen to share their knowledge of the ingredients and recipes of the time. There will also be ‘have a go archery’ from 11.00-16.00, hosted by the Bowmen of Guernsey. ‘Knight School’ is a light-hearted living history show for the young and young at heart. This will be performed at 12.15 and 14.30. The full timetable can be viewed at www.museums.gov.gg/fete

Jo Dowding, Access & Learning Manager says: ‘don’t forget that entry is free if you turn up in medieval costume. There are some great tips online and some of our best costumes in the past have been handmade from old pillowcases or cereal boxes’

Fete d’Etai takes place at Castle Cornet on Sunday 20 August from 10.00-17.00. Normal admission applies: £11 for adults, £3 for children and free of
