EU Settlement Scheme Workshop

MEDIA RELEASE: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and not Bailiwick Express, and the text is reproduced exactly as supplied to us

A workshop to assist any remaining EU, EEA or Swiss Nationals in the Bailiwick who have yet to register with the EU Settled Status scheme will be held on Saturday 7th March at Beau Sejour, Cambridge Room from 10am to 3pm.

The scheme has been open since 1st April 2019 and will remain so for any EU, EEA or Swiss National who is currently resident here or arrives in the Bailiwick on or by 31st Dec 2020. There will be an extended period for applicants to submit their registration - June 2021. The UK and the EU have agreed that affected citizens' rights will continue as at present until 31st December 2020. As a result, if those citizens want to stay in the Bailiwick of Guernsey beyond that date, they will need to apply under the EU/EEA/Swiss Settlement Scheme. This will allow those citizens and their family members to continue to live and work in the Bailiwick of Guernsey and will allow them to continue to have ongoing rights to healthcare, work arrangements and public services.

It is important to note that the EU/EEA/Swiss Settlement Scheme will be operated under immigration legislation and is entirely separate to the Population Management Law which operates in Guernsey, and any domestic laws controlling employment and residence in Alderney and Sark, which will continue to apply as they do now.

Immigration & Nationality Manager Lorraine Coupland said:

“Now that Brexit has happened, the UK has entered into the transition period and there is more certainty. This workshop, which will be in the form of a “drop in” session, will help us assist those yet to register . We would encourage every employer to publicise the scheme to their staff. The scheme is free and the application process is quick and easy.”
