Individuals wanting to take part in the Saffery Rotary Walk will be able to take advantage of the Early Bird registration discount for a further month. Organisers have extended the deadline from 31st January to 28th February.

Simon Milsted, the chair of the organising committee, says: “Registration numbers have been fantastic but as the walk is popular with people locally and from the other islands, the UK and even further afield, we want to allow visitors more time to assess how the latest Covid wave subsides before they sign up. Extending the individual walker deadline until the end of February should give everyone locally and from outside our glorious shores that window. I’m looking forward to a surge of bookings in February. It’s important that people who’ve lived with uncertainty and restrictions for some time get the chance to enjoy the beautiful Guernsey scenery that the Saffery Rotary Walk showcases. I want 2022 to be the year that we send out the message "Welcome Back".”

Mr Milsted continues: “We’ve had around 130 entries so far, while pre Covid that number would be roughly 200 at this point. Last year saw a massive surge of interest locally, with bumper numbers walking and funds raised. I’m hoping that will be matched and even exceeded this year so we can support the chosen charities which we will be sharing with everyone soon. This walk is about raising money for them. One in eight individual entrants are from the other islands, the UK and beyond and giving them this extra month to sign up and still receive the early bird discount is a sensible compromise. Of course, the extension and discount equally applies to locals.”

Early bird individual walkers can register at the discounted price of £25 until 28th February so sign up now.

The Saffery Rotary Walk will take place on Saturday 11th June 2022. It is a 39-mile circuit of Guernsey, beginning and ending in St Peter Port. It takes a southerly route, tackling the cliffs, then the west coast and finishing on the eastern seaboard. It is not a race and people can take their time, stop for food and rest breaks and enjoy the spectacular views. There are water and snack stations along the route, breakfast at Le Gouffre and we even move your heavy bags from checkpoint to checkpoint for the walkers. There is also the option of taking part in a relay team for anyone who doesn’t want to walk the full 39 miles.

All of the proceeds raised by the walkers goes to Guernsey charities as the sponsors are generous in covering the organisation and running costs. Go to the Saffery Rotary Walk website and social media pages to find out more about the walk and sign up now.
