The Channel Islands Coop is proud to be donating a total of £12,448 to local charities and community projects across Guernsey as part of its Coop Community Fund.

The fund will support around 11 causes in Guernsey, going to projects that the Coop believe resonate with its vision of making a real difference to local communities.

Each local project has been specifically chosen by the Coop due to the outstanding impact its having on improving local communities. This is the Coop’s third year of running its Community Fund, following a successful first and second year where an overall total of £156,880 has been donated to 157 projects and initiatives.

This pay-out of 2023 goes to demonstrate the Coop’s ongoing commitment to making a real difference to the communities it serves and through the campaign has transformed hundreds of lives.

Recipients of the first round of funding for this year included charities such as The Mill Street Community Café, who received £2,000 to go towards cookery workshops for people who lack the necessary skills to prepare nutritious meals for themselves and their families. The funds will purchase ingredients and extra cooking utensils for use with groups of people, plus protective clothing, cleaning materials and containers for participants to transport their meals.

Carl Winn, Head of Community and Sustainability at CI Coop said: " “It’s a privilege to be able to help so many community groups, clubs, and charities in Jersey and Guernsey, as they tirelessly work to improve the lives of our islanders.

“Through our Community Fund, we support like-minded charities and not-for-profit organisations that align with our vision as a Coop, providing a financial boost to local causes, enabling them to keep up their incredible work.”

Of the incredible groups that all work tirelessly to improve lives, other Guernsey projects supported on this round included:

The Clean Earth Trust, with funds going towards daily running of the charity for items such as: beach clean items.

The Ladies’ College (Melrose), with funds helping to develop a space in the preparatory playground that will be a calm, quiet, relaxing space for girls who need it.

The community fund has also supported 15 groups in Jersey, donating £13,701 and totalling over £26,000 across both Islands.
