Local printer Colour Monster has acquired Guernsey Herald’s printing assets, making it the largest printer of its kind in the Channel Islands.
Guernsey Herald was liquidated and wound up earlier this year. Colour Monster has also taken over the lease of its premises in The Guernsey Press building where it will shortly be relocating all of its operations.
The acquisition guarantees the jobs of eight former Guernsey Herald employees, all specialists in the five-colour lithographic print process, making a total team of 16 Colour Monster staff.
Colour Monster was set up in 2008 by Matthew Brehaut, Damian Lacey and Matthew Stephen, principally as a digital print shop. Over the past six years the business has continued to expand, initially acquiring two-colour litho printing machines from Image Print last year to complement its existing digital machines and now moving to an even larger five-colour litho printing service.
“The communications industry is constantly changing, but there continues to be a huge need for printed collateral in many different forms whether its simple business cards, financial reports or large quantity calendars and brochures. We can now offer a full service to all our clients,” said Mr Lacey, managing director of the business.
“This is a very exciting move for us. With the flexibility of both full, five-colour B2 (500mm x 707mm size paper taking half the time to print) litho printing, specialist binding capabilities as well as our B3 (353mm x 500mm sized paper) two-colour litho machines and state of the art Xerox digital print presses for personalisation and smaller quantities, we are able to offer a variety of options to suit all our customers’ requirements.
“This new machinery will not only enable us to print to a higher specification (previously a two-colour process), but will double both speed and output, bringing the cost down and offering a local option to companies that currently buy their print off island.”
“We are keen to bring life back into the print industry and will now be able to offer foiling and embossing, which previously has had to be sent off-island,” said Mr Lacey.
Mr Lacey has been in the print business since he left school and is ambitious and excited about its future.
“Having acquired some of Herald’s additional print assets, we are now able to fulfil all print requirements within the Channel Islands however large or small,” he said.
“All our new and existing Colour Monster staff are also local having worked within the printing business since leaving school, proving our passion for the industry and support of the island’s economy.”

We always had the issue that for high-end lithographic printing, we would invariably need to go off island which wasn't ideal for us, yet for most other things, we used Colour Monster.

Colour Monster Print Shop provides high quality printing including colour posters, flyers, brochures, letterheads, business cards, invoice pads and detailed documents such as report and accounts and bound board papers.
