The firing of the noonday gun this Friday signals that Castle Cornet is fully open for the season.
The President of the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture, Deputy Matt Fallaize said, ‘We are very pleased that the first gun of the season will again be fired by a representative of Cannon Asset Management. Cannon has sponsored the ammunition for the gun and the gunners’ uniforms for over a decade, and the heritage of Guernsey benefits greatly from this support.’
All the Castle’s museums, the shop and café will be open from 10am to 5pm daily, with guided tours taking place at 10.30am. Fort Grey will also open this Friday, from 10am to 4.30pm daily. Visitors to the fort can also see the timbers from the Roman ship known as ‘Asterix’ across at Guernsey Pearl.
The German Naval Signals Headquarters in St Jacques will re-open for visits every afternoon from 12.30 to 4.30pm. It is being promoted as part of the Occupation-themed Channel Islands Heritage Festival.
