Butterfield Bank (Guernsey) Limited has announced the appointment of Richard Saunders as Interim Managing Director and Head of Wealth Management for Guernsey, with effect from 1 October 2015.

Current Managing Director, John Robinson, will retire at the end of September.

Mr Saunders joined Butterfield as a Senior Manager and Head of Guernsey’s investment team in 2000.  He was most recently Butterfield’s Head of European Asset Management, with responsibility for discretionary management for private client portfolios, and a member of the Bank’s Asset Management Executive Committee, which sets the strategic direction of Butterfield’s investment operations globally.  His prior experience includes seven years with RBC dealing with private client investments.  Mr. Saunders is a Chartered Member of the London-based Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (“CISI”) and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Sports Science from Loughborough University.

Conor O’Dea, Butterfield Group’s President & Chief Operating Officer, said: “Richard is a very experienced Senior Executive and has been highly effective as our Head of the Asset Management team in Guernsey and latterly Europe.  I am confident that, with his investment knowledge and leadership experience within the business, Richard is the right choice for Interim Managing Director and Head of Wealth Management in Guernsey, and that he will be key to the ongoing development of our Guernsey business.”

Mr Saunders said “During my time at Butterfield I have had first-hand experience in helping the business transform and adjust to the changing landscape. I know I have a strong team supporting me locally, and at Group level, and I look forward to this new and exciting role.”
