Meanwhile, the regular ladies tennis players on the island held their annual Christmas Charity Tournament at the Guernsey Tennis Club to raise money for Parkinson’s Guernsey. The event was won by Pam West and Jenni Strobridge and raised over £1,660 for the Charity. Peter Neville, Chairman of Parkinson’s Guernsey said “We are so grateful for generous support of Guernsey’s tennis community. The money raised will help us to run exercise sessions and social gatherings for our members and arrange a number of other events. Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world and around 1 in 500 people are affected by it. Exercise – and tennis in particular - is very beneficial to those suffering from the disease. Having a positive attitude and to being physically active has been shown to slow down development of the symptoms, improves a person’s quality of life and helps them stay in control of their condition.”
