After what has been one of the wettest winters for many years, the Royal Guernsey Golf Club (RGGC) is welcoming a strong draw for its prestigious Logicalis Open Challenge Trophy.
A team open foursomes competition, the Logicalis Challenge Trophy takes place on Saturday (21 April) and this year’s event has already seen an entry of 125 pairs including players from clubs in the UK.
The event, the RGGC’s only open of the season, has been running for over 31 years and is an 18 hole foursomes Stableford competition off half the combined handicap of each pair. The first golfers tee off from 7:00am and the last around 2.30pm.
Defending their title will be husband and wife combo, Mark and Di Stenner who came in last year with 41 points (nett). The ladies prize went to La Grande Mare duo, Helen Banks and Rosie Scott who scored 34 points (nett) and the best scratch was won by Wayne Harwood and Chris Walker with 33 gross points.
Shaun McDade, RGGC Captain said: “After what’s been a pretty bad winter the course is in very good condition thanks to some great management and work by our green staff. As our first and only open competition of the year, I’m sure people will be desperate to get out and see how they fare; I just hope that the weather is kind on the day.
“It’s great to have Logicalis on board again this year, this event always draws a strong entry and it’s lovely to welcome players from further afield.”
Jon Crichard managing director of Logicalis CI said: “The Challenge Trophy is the Royal Guernsey Golf Club’s only open competition and always attracts a very healthy draw. Logicalis is honoured to be able to help continue its legacy; now some 31 years in the making. With the weather at last cheering up, it looks like will have some ideal conditions to kick start the season.
“We’d like to wish all the competitors the very best of luck.”
Logicalis is donating prizes for the first, second and third top scores off scratch, the best ladies pairing as well as the top 15 places off handicap. There will also be nearest the pin prizes on the four short par three holes.
