Bedell Cristin in Guernsey has appointed Vanessa Lawlor as an associate.

She has joined from the BVI where she gained extensive experience advising on a wide range of matters including capital markets and structured finance, acquisitions, private equity, insurance and reinsurance and listing services.

Vanessa is instructed regularly by major financial institutions, public and private corporations, shipping agents and high net worth individuals on sales and acquisitions, aircraft and shipping finance, IPOs, liquidations, company restructures and other legal matters. As well as advising on significant financing projects in the BVI, she has also advised investment funds, trust companies and other clients on regulatory and compliance requirements.

Until 2009, she spent her early legal career in Ireland, where she qualified as an Irish solicitor, and is also admitted as a solicitor in Northern Ireland and in the BVI.

Commenting on her appointment, managing partner Mark Helyar said: “It has been a sustained period of growth for the firm, including securing an increasingly large share of the insurance market, a rise in banking, funds and corporate instructions and advising on a wide range of innovative corporate and commercial deals.

“Vanessa’s appointment brings further strength and depth to our Guernsey offering and will help us meet the requirements of an increasingly diverse range of blue chip clients worldwide. Her substantial experience in matters of BVI law also adds to our capabilities in Guernsey and will support the wider Group’s BVI offering in Singapore, the BVI and Jersey.”
