Barclays is celebrating long-serving employees in Guernsey with over 27 employees working for the business for more than ten years and 15 employees for more than 25 years.
Karen Hamon is the longest serving Barclays employee, celebrating 44 years with the bank, having joined in 1970. Ms Hamon’s current role is as head of the reconciliations team where she is responsible for oversight of the internal accounts. She manages a team of four, which monitors and authorises accounts for Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man, London, Cyprus and Gibraltar.
During her time at Barclays, Ms Hamon has worked in many different areas of the business, in both client-facing and back office roles. She started as a junior in the processing area and worked her way up to take on roles in lending, investments, stocks and shares as well as being local operations manager for a period.
Ms Hamon said: “I interact with colleagues in all parts of the business in many locations daily. I have built great working relationships which not only makes the job easier but I have also made friends, some of which I have worked with over the years remain my close friends to this day. Working my way up through the various departments has made my job varied and interesting. The knowledge I have gained has helped me throughout my career both in my role and in supporting others.”
