The Parish of St. Pierre du Bois will again be hosting a fantastic Liberation Day celebration event on Tuesday 9th May 2023 on L’Eree Common and Beach.

Free entertainment commences on its opening at 11am with Dennis Burns as Compere, with family activities on the Common for all ages, or take advantage of the Kayak and SUP use on the Beach. Live music takes place in the main marquee throughout the day, which is generously supported by Rocq Capital. Alongside some cracking 40’s tunes to singalong with in the morning, we have Lee-Ann Hawkes busking whilst you lunch, followed by the popular duo that is Cobo Cabana and an awesome Youth Band called Aviation.

Fun and games will begin on the Beach in the afternoon with a whole host of organised activities – don’t forget your buckets, spades and decorations for the Sandcastle competition, bring your muscles for tug-of-war and your mates for the footie. For the rest of the family, visit the Vintage Was Memorabilia stall, enjoy the Parish photography display, be welcomed at the Guernesiaise speakers table or just sit and picnic and take it all in whilst bumping into old friends.

Event Organiser Anne Thomas said “Our generous Sponsors and Volunteers have once again supported the Committee to bring together an incredible day of Community celebration and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to this year’s event. We’re particularly proud to be hosting the Chelsea Pensioners and Gurkhas and wish to ensure that as many of our Community who wish to attend, can do so easily”.

The late afternoon and evening stage features a superb line up of some of the Island’s best known bands. Returning to Headline are Buffalo Huddleston, fantastically supported by Underdog, Stoked and The Space Pirates of Rocquaine, with the obligatory bumper Meat Draw slotting in between at 17.30, whilst the VraicEaters Tavern play host to you all day long behind the bar.

In the meantime, there’s also food aplenty! The ever popular Collenette Jones Traditional Tea Tent will be stocked with cakes, sandwiches and savouries and is supported by some of the best quality Food Vendors; Chefan burgers, ATAN South Asian cuisine, Fish & Chip Co. and Mim’s Pizzas together with Mim’s Island Ices and Dinos tri-cycles with Speciality Coffee & Hechet Farm Ice-Cream. We’ve got it all covered!

Spectator seating will be available for those who require it, to watch the well-loved Cavalcade which passes by around 13.20 and we encourage blue badge holders or those requiring nearby parking to get in touch via email with annethomas@cwgsy.net. Please don’t forget your neighbours or those by themselves – bring everyone along to enjoy our special local day.

Public parking is available, but we also encourage active travel to the Event; there are multiple passing bus routes and a grass based bicycle park.

Massive thanks and recognition is extended to our valued Sponsors, Rocq Capital, Collenette Jones, The Vraiceaters Tavern, Go Momo, Outdoor Guernsey, Venture Auto Locksmiths, Venture Petrol and Pet Feed store, Styx Centre, the Longfrie Inn, Longfrie Surgery, Scaffolding Services and Le Tricoteur for their generous community support. Please follow @stpierredubois Facebook page for all updates.
