La Société Guernesiaise is now accepting applications for its 2023 Grant which is now £2,000

La Société’s annual bursary is now the La Société Grant and for 2023 this grant has been increased to £2,000. La Société aims to encourage the study and conservation of Guernsey’s nature so the grant is open to Citizen Scientists - people who are not in higher education and have started, or who want to start, researching parts of Guernsey’s wildlife and ecology. The grant is also open to students studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level who are studying subjects related to biodiversity and conservation of the natural environment. The Guernsey Biological Records Centre can offer office space, advice, and support to on-island researchers.

Past Grant Winners have studied subjects including Environment and Media, Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences. Last year’s winner, Anthony Ford-Marsland, is a local filmmaker with a First Class (Hons) Degree in Filmmaking. The La Société Grant supported the creation of a conservation documentary film in the Bailiwick of Guernsey to raise local and international awareness of our marine life, in particular seagrass and how important it is as both a plant and a habitat. The film is due to premiere this year.

Anthony said;

“We are creating documentaries for conservation to raise awareness for the vital parts of our ecosystems in an engaging, educational and accessible way. Not everyone has the opportunity to access, learn about and explore wildlife, by exposing people to some of the wondrous local habitats we hope to show the beauty and value that is right under our very noses. We plan for this film to be the first of many in raising awareness, educating and promoting conservation in our Bailiwick.”

Closing Date: 30th April 2023
